The visit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate KAILASH SATYARTHI to the Senate

The visit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate KAILASH SATYARTHI to the Senate has already rendered great results. The Plenary of the Senate has decided to withdraw the request for constitutional urgency to the examination of a Bill that regulates forced labour and restricts its concept, that currently encompasses also degrading conditions of labour and exhaustive hours of work. I’m extremely happy and thankful for this brilliant achievement. It was a surprising result of the visit of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. A great victory for the Brazilian social movement, I also thank the President of the Senate, Senator RENAN CALHEIROS and the Vice-President JORGE VIANA, who received KAILASH SATYARTHI for a meeting at the Office of the President of the Senate. I extend my thanks to Senators PAULO ROCHA, CRISTOVAM BUARQUE and ROMERO JUCÁ, as well as to all Senators who voted for the withdrawal of the urgency regime. The Bill will now follow to ordinary regime, and will be discussed in the relevant Commissions of the Senate, giving opportunity to an extensive debate both among the Senators and with the civil society.” Senator PAULO PAIM
